Transforming Primary Care

In 2014, NHS England invited Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG’s) to come forward with expressions of interest to take a greater role in the commissioning of primary care services, initially GP Practices.

‘Primary care’ includes GP’s, dentists, pharmacists and some other out-of-hospital health services.

This is one of a series of changes set out in the NHS ‘Five Year Forward View’ which aims to develop ‘seamless, integrated out-of-hospital services based around the needs of local populations.’

The plan, known as ‘Transforming Primary Care’, or ‘Co-commissioning’, could lead to a range of benefits for the public and patients.
